With the increasing use of digitalisation by countries, the creation of a national CSIRT, an organisation to coordinate the protection of cyberspace and critical information infrastructure, is crucial. The Government of Malawi has decided to establish such an organisation to be responsible for the protection of government systems and to contribute to capacity building and the creation of a cybersecurity culture in the country.
NRD Cyber Security experts helped to establish a functioning national Malawian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT).
The project provided advice on the services to be provided by mwCERT, the definition of processes, the establishment of a website, the introduction of digital test lab technologies and equipment, and the establishment of procedures for their use. A conference was organised with users of mwCERT services and stakeholders to explain the importance and role of the established CERT. In addition, a special training session took place for CERT staff to demonstrate how they could perform their duties to a higher standard.
