Set-up and implementation of centralised digital forensic laboratory
Challenge
Lithuania’s and Estonian’s Centralized Forensic Science Centres carry out forensic examinations required by courts and by pre-trial investigation authorities. The number of requests for information technologies and digital imaging forensic examination has plummeted since IT became an integral part of our everyday life. The increased number of requests caused delays in criminal, civil and administrative proceedings, as the Centres’ capabilities and processes could not meet increasing demands.
Solution
Implementation of a centralized digital forensic laboratory and equipping it with hardware, specialised software and established processes. Solution enabled an optimum use of available IT expertise, reduced waiting lines for IT examinations, increased the rate of investigated crimes and elevated the overall level of justice in the country. Modern digital forensic laboratory increased the efficiency of judicial examinations of audio-visual files, phonograms, computer game programmes and video media.
